Finally, a reason to pay attention to CX cats

From the latest edition of the USCF Rulebook:

6F8. National Cyclocross Championships shall be conducted for Elite men (cat 1-2) and Elite women (cat 1-3).

Staff Comment: Now that we have CX categories, this establishes the minimum category for participation in CX national championships. This will take effect in 2007.

Translation for you sandbaggers: Cat up, or skip Natz...

Bart Wellens is a Turd

"Even though I had the best legs of the season I couldn't do much more than what I did. The jersey went to the wrong person, he shouldn't have won it even though he's a teammate. He deserves to be on the podium but the other guys don't,"

-Bart Wellens after the World Championship race

What an ass.

This is so wrong on so many levels. To slam a teammate like that is unforgivable. His team should fire him, his sponsors and fans should abandon him, Vervecken should request his dismissal or seek another team. To slam the other riders who stepped up to fill the remaining podium spots is a further display of bad sportsmanship - this guy will have few friends on the course and hopefully face a gauntlet of hecklers in every race he enters from this day forward.

Bart Wellens is now officially the wrong person from now on...

US Riders Strong in World Cup

Jonathan Page, Ryan Trebon, and Katie Compton are looking strong and confident going into next weekend's Elite World Championships - all three riders sneaked into the top 10 of yesterday's World Cup race in Hoogerheide, Netherlands (report here). Nys and Kupfernagel are looking good as favorites for the Men's and Women's races, respectively.
