Masters Worlds Cancelled

Katrina Baumsteiger has been one of the most successful Nor-Cal racers at the Masters World Championships in past years...

A few of the most dedicated and best Masters racers in Nor-Cal would venture to Belgium each Jan. for the coveted Masters World Championships. This year the news just came in that the event has been cancelled for the 2009-10 season. Here is the link to the story fresh off the Internet press thanks to Cyclocross Magazine...

Northern California's finest Masters racers such as Mark Howland & Henry Kramer made a annual voyage overseas to take on the best Cyclocross competition at the Masters World Championships. This year the event is cancelled, will it surface at a new venue??

Mark Howland...
Henry Kramer...

Odds are that this is not the end of this story. I suspect this event could surface at a new venue somewhere in Europe, or maybe somewhere in North America.

UselessCI has now reinstated Masters Worlds for 2010 and future - with a significant sting. It will cost promoters 2,500 non-refundable Euros just to place a bid and if successful, they want another 15,000 Euros for the priveledge of offering racing to a group they continue to ignore. That's nearly $25,000 of our dollars to start your promoting engine. We refer to that as a really big line item in somebody's business plan - maybe those costs get funded by municipal/provincial and federal governments in Euro but not around these parts.

And the Gumbies in Switzerland now recognize their program has not resulted in eager organizers beating down their doors with bids. See this link from Andrew and CX Magazine:

Thanks Tom for the insite. Too bad the UCI is not stepping up and helping out instead of digging in the promoters pockets for some extra change.
