US Nationals Moving to January?

Morgan Fletcher passed along the following URLs alluding that USAC is considering moving Nationals to January to align with the rest of the Cyclocross world.

Adam Myerson confirmed the rumor, and he thinks it's likely to happen.

Methinks that January Natz will only serve to make Nationals more epic - though the jury is out as to whether this is a good thing...

Put them anywhere from Colorado to the Midwest to New England, and it will likely be a snowy and icy affair. Put them in the NW and you're looking at conditions that would make 03/04 Nats look like a drizzle. Of course, if you put them in Norcal, it would be perfect.

Now that Norcal races are starting in early September this should serve to make the season a bigger deal - and it *really* won't be your off-season any more...

USAC tried to move Cross Nationals to Jan once already in the past. The problem is no promoter in the US would buy into a Jan date and the effort failed and we remained in Dec. Maybe this time around things will be different now that Cross nationals are drawing larger fields so a promoter may be more willing to take the risk of a Jan date.

I remember doing the nationals at the Kitsap County fairgrounds in January up in Washington. It seemed a resounding success, but there wasn't the consideration of the Euro Cross camp at that time. The race was epic, totally fun, and well attended (for that time in the world of cross...)

i think cross nationals should be held in march or in the summer, Cross is fun and why not make it a year round sport.

But as far as nationals in jan, what about the folks doing Cross racing in Europe or the Masters World championships. Having the nationals in jan sounds like it would mess up lots of the best racers in America from getting a chance to go over to europe and race the euro boys and girls.

Why is everyone so concerned about the Euro's? They don't give a hoot about our racing scene!

I agree with the last comment.
We could be going over to Japan w/o any serious training and kick some serious ass !!
And, the Japanese food is better !!
