USA Cycling to merge Cross + BMX in 06-07
This just in:
Various blog posters have informed me that Euro' cyclocross now includes BMX whoop de doos, berms and various other rad features. Looks like those NorCal courses o' death this year were on the vanguard after all.
Now it has been announced, given the broad spectator appeal of BMX and the fact that cyclocross in this country can't muster enough sponsorship to send anyone to worlds (...), USA Cycling has wisely decided to merge BMX and 'cross starting next season.
From now on races will be decided on a points format composed of finish order, styley points, and big air. Bikes will be restricted to 24" single speeds with Torker cranks and barspin headsets.
On the plus side, this means only one license next year for all you stylin' kids. On the minus, the rest of you better start bonin' up on your terminology unless you want to find yourself doing a lawndart in the flatbottom at next year's races.
The best part: the BMX worlds are in Brazil ... way better than doggin' it in the mud and cow dung in Belgium, yo?
OK, maybe not ... Happy new year -- DC

you think bmx is about to share all the funding being an olympic sport provides..........
How bad ass is that, just yet another reason to pull that old redline out of mothballs and build berms, and table tops in the backyard to get stylee with it.
