Natz Schedule - Great Idea

Kudos to the organizers of the 2005 Cyclocross Nationals. I think the idea of having the Elite Men race on Saturday and Women on Sunday was great to spread the Elite action out over 2 days. Plus, having the bonus race on Sunday (Liberty Mutal Cup) was kind of a throwback to the SuperCup days. Also, it made this photo possible. How cool is it to see a race led off by all the newly-crowned National Champions???

Yeah. And no title race just for uni-cyclists, or people who run their brakes reversed, or a clincher only race, or for cross-dressers, or....

Was there something preventing you from racing your SS in any of the fields that they DID have? Didn't think so.

Whoa cycloscott, such hostility. There has been a SS race at Nationals for a few years now and it would have been nice to have another race to enter besides the regular class that I would have. Besides, I do race my SS in races with geared guys.

Hostility in my post? Wow, didn't know your sensibilities were so delicate. But I guess calling Nats "NO GOOD!" because they didn't cater to a sub-set of the 'cross culture (a sub-set in itself) isn't hostile either, huh? ;-)

Consider my original question a reality check. Exactly how many categories SHOULD they have at Nats, short of making it a 5 day weekend of racing? B's? C's? SS? SS 35+? SS Men? SS Women? Where do you draw the line?

And that whole, 'they had it last year' argument is tired. They had a unicycle race the last couple of years too. And there was a messenger race in SF in 99. Haven't seen a repeat of that.

Congrats on racing the SS with the gearies. Consider having a separate race a bonus. Not a requirement.

given how my drivetrain was self-destructing it might have been a good idea to take a singlespeed...

psycoscott, you obviously have problem with SSers. My guess is you have been spanked well by some. I only expressed an opinion on a scheduling issue but you have taken this personal. You do have a point on class breakdowns but the manner in which you make that point is.....well, whatever. Good luck in your quest to rid the world of a SS class at races.

oh please. You should probably keep your 2 cent psycho-analysis to yourself. It's just plain sad. Especially when you hide behind the anonymous tag.

Shoot, tell me a class that I haven't been spanked by at one time or another. But I've done my share of SS racing as well. Won a few, lost more, raced against gearies, and in my very own SS category. Even went to SS Worlds this year.

You're the one who has chosen to make this personal (psycoscott). I merely disagreed with your whiny, cater-to-me, opinion. And like I said, consider a SS race a bonus. No skin off my butt if it's there, I might even race it.

Still haven't seen a valid reason from you validating why Nats were NO GOOD for the lack of SS. Seems everybody else enjoyed themselves.

Well, as I said in the first line of in my response earlier, there has been a SS race at Nationals for a few years now and it would have been nice to continue having a SS race at Nationals. BTW, it is not, nor has it been a "title race", it simply was a great race to do. As far as hiding behind the anonymous tag, at this point it is a lot more fun since I know who you are. Do you remember fun or is capping on people your only outlet?

"and it would have been nice to continue having a SS race at Nationals"

Now that's a far cry from "NO GOOD!". And a lot more in line with the real world. Sorry, but time is limited in these days of little sunshine. The organizers can only fit so many races into the day. Somethings got to give, and this year they chose to have 2 B races instead of a B and a SS.

I could give a rat's patootie if you know who I am. You're probably some SS proselytizer who sandbags in the age-group B's for the imagined glory.

Easy fellas...I know who you both are and you'll be getting coal in your stockings for taking the original posting off on a tangent and beating it to death.

Keep the peace.

I am just a dumb speeder wanker, but please define "proselytizer". There really isn't a SS culture here as there is in Portland.

No, sorry to disappoint you Scott, I do not sandbag in some age group B's race. I have raced at the top end of the sport for quite some time. I am not some SS prophet spreading the word, just a guy who thought the schedule of Nats should have included a SS race as it has been. To me, that is no good, to you, it is something different. Give respect, get respect!

Bradley, is that you? ;-)

I guess I just don't get the 'NO GOOD' label thrown out there simply for the lack of a SS race. 'wish they woulda', 'bummer they didn't have it', 'dang, I missed it' etc would all have been fine.

Let's say you're the promoter. Where do you squeeze in the SS race? Do you do away with one of the B's? Combine more of the age group fields? Or blow away the race that Santa, er funkdaddy, liked? (and that is a rockin' picture by the way) Seriously, something's got to give in that schedule for a SS race.

Well, like I said, "no good" is just an opinion, not fact. I beleive that is the spirit behind these blogs, not personal banter. If it must be said, there was time at 8am fri as well as a shortened schedule on sun. My mistake on the use of "no good". Who's Bradley?
